The War & Peace Center tells the unique and remarkable story of the occupation of Iceland from 1940 to 1945 — a time when a peaceful countryside was transformed into the backdrop for world events, playing a crucial role in the Allied victory of World War II. The center features a thoughtfully curated collection of artifacts and memorabilia related to the military presence in Hvalfjörður during this dramatic and fateful period.
We also have a cozy little café serving homemade cakes and local treats.
The War & Peace Center opened on May 19, 2012.
